Lucy Strickland, 83, passed away on, September 29, 2021, at Research Medical Center, in Kansas City, MO. She was born on, July 28, 1938, in Leland, MS to Claude McGhee and Florida Mae McGhee. She grew up in Leland, MS and after moving to Kansas City, she received her G.E.D.
Lucy worked as a chef at several places including, Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club, Carter’s Catering, and the Waldorf Astoria Dinner Playhouse. She retired in 2008.
On February 3, 1987, she married, L. C. Strickland and they were happily married for 34 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude MaGee and Florida M. McGhee; husband, L. R. Strickland; sons, Louis T. Ward, Jr. and Kelvin J. Ward; daughter, Evea M. Olden Alexander; brother, Dave McGhee; son-in-law, James Olden Alexander; and granddaughter, Latonya Renea Ward.
She is survived by her stepmother, Victoria MaGee; siblings, Andrea MaGee, Deniece Ladner (Gerald), Claude MaGee (Lisa), Hattie McGriff (James), and Mosezell (Kelly); children, Jacqueline E. Ward-Brown (Dennis), Alberta Coley, Victor Rounds; uncle, Chunk (Elmira); 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 31 great great-grandchildren; 1 great great great-grandchild; special sister-in-law, Louise Perkins; cousins, Sallie (Bobo), Mathis, Choice Gates, and John Harmon; as well as a host of other family and friends.
