Listen to Obituary

Maranita Louise Darrough was born on May 1, 1962, to Eloise Bennett and Joe Edward Darrough Sr. She peacefully departed this life on April 30, 2026.

Maranita was preceded in death by her loving parents; her husband, Richard Vance; her son, Darrell Darrough; her sister, Dana Stephens; and her brothers, Ralph Darrough and Joe Darrough Jr.

Maranita received her early education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. During her high school years, she relocated with her family to Evanston, Illinois, where she graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1980. She later pursued her passion for beauty by attending cosmetology school, where she earned her certification.

She dedicated 27 years of service to the Department of Veterans Affairs, from which she retired. In addition, she spent over 20 years working in home health care, compassionately caring for others in their homes.

Maranita was known for her warm spirit and open heart. She found great joy in spending time with family and friends, often opening her home to others. Her favorite pastimes included Saturday garage sale shopping, doing makeovers, dressing up, and listening to gospel music. She was a woman of strong faith and unwavering belief.

A natural leader, Maranita was a take-charge woman, especially in the kitchen, where she expressed her love through cooking. She cherished her role as a grandmother, embracing it wholeheartedly and treating it as one of her most important callings.

Maranita rededicated her life to Christ at Beyond Thee Four Walls Outreach Ministry under the leadership of Bishop Arnold L. Shelby Sr. She faithfully served in multiple capacities, including kitchen ministry, event coordination, and the usher board. Her home remained a place of comfort, encouragement, and love for all who entered.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughter, Kanisha Darrough-Bostic (Clifford); her son, Jeremy Darrough (Tearra); her stepdaughter, Sierra Vance; her beloved granddaughters, E’Monie, Kei’Mhia, Angel’Lee, Jourden, Destinee, Delilah, Jermany, Charlie Anastacia, Laila, Laniya; her grandsons, Jeremiah,Tayvon, Omarion, Clifford, Dustin, her sisters, JoAnn and LaDonna Darrough, both of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Maranita’s legacy of love, strength, faith, and service will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
