Marcus Alexander Whitney was born on May 7, 1979 in Washington, D.C. to Charles Whitney and Carolyn Whitney. He passed away at the age of 45 on May 24, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Ruskin High School also in Kansas City, Missouri. He began working at AT&T as a supervisor where he worked for 20 plus years. He owned a private security company that served the Kansas City area and frequently traveled with recording artists as needed. For 4 years, he worked as a youth coordinator at Sisters in Christ. In 2022, he worked at Ruskin High School as a health & fitness teacher. He also was the head coach of the boys’ varsity basketball team, which he led to conference and district titles. He also received coach of the year accolades from his peers. Most recently, he accepted a position at Belton High School as a recovery teacher and was also the head coach for the girls’ varsity basketball team.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a love for cars, clothes, shoes, cologne, and jewelry. He was part of a bowling league, loved to play dominoes, and spent countless hours mentoring and coaching young men through his AAU program (Team KC Blackout - All Hustle No Luck).
He married Cecilia Whitney on September 20, 2020 in Cancun, Mexico. Followed by an intimate ceremony in their home in early October 2020. They were happily married for a little over 3 ½ years. They loved to travel and went on countless domestic trips, Jamaica, Mexico, and Belize.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Aunt Theresa Ann Medley and close friend Daniel Rivera. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Cecilia Whitney, parents Charles Whitney and Carolyn Whitney, brothers Malcolm and Johnathan Whitelaw, son Darius Townsend, daughter Cierra Holley, son Dallas Whitney, daughter Dakota Nova Ann Whitney, grandparents Clyde and Vivian Smith, mother-in-love Sherine Cochran, and a host of other relatives and friends.
