Marilyn Renee Shaw was born on August 9, 1957, to Willie Mae Shaw and Willie Pollard in Kansas City, MO. She was the youngest of four siblings. Marilyn transitioned to her heavenly home April 8, 2025, at North Care Hospice House, in North Kansas City, MO.
Marilyn, a lifelong area resident, graduated from Central High School and continued her education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, earning a B.S. Degree in Education.
Marilyn taught in the Kansas City Public School system for 30 years before retiring. She was a dedicated teacher and was loved by all of her students. Marilyn loved football and was a proud, die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. She was also an avid bowler before health issues arose. In her pastime, she enjoyed the diversion and entertainment of going to the local casinos. Throughout her illness she maintained her faith, her sense of humor and gratitude for the loving expressions that were given to her. Her family, which she loved to spend time with, was one of her biggest joys.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae, her eldest brother, Dr. Harvey Shaw, Jr., and a nephew, Adam B. Shaw, Jr.
Marilyn is survived by her brother, Adam B. Shaw (Cheryl); her sister, N. Joyce Bess; nieces: Kathleen D. Shaw, Cherie Burton, Tanika V. Shaw-Washington (Damon), Keyma J. Bess, Jendayi L. Roark (Dahesi), and Monique R. Shaw; nephews: Alan Shaw (Donna), Eric L. Bess (Jackie), Mark L. Shaw (Ruby), and a host of little nieces and nephews, other loving family members and friends.
As our newest and beloved Ancestor, she declares: “Every good word... which shall be uttered or said before me by any person whatsoever I will fulfill to the uttermost, omitting nothing.”, -The Book of The Dead
