Listen to Obituary

Mario Lamont Washington 65, born June 24, 1958, to the union of Willie and Minnie Washington in Kansas City, Missouri. Mario grew up in T.B. Watkins. He received his formal education at Kansas City Public Schools. He attended Manual High School until it closed in 1977. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1978. After graduation, Mario enlisted in the United States Army. At the time of his passing, he was employed with the Veteran’s Administration, CMOP Pharmacies, in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Mario accepted Christ at an early age. He loved God and he read his bible daily. He watched Arnold and Dennis Murry, father and son pastors of Shepard’s Chapel on television daily.

Mario loved sports, especially watching the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved taking pictures. If a camera was in sight, he was surely front and center with the many poses he loved to take. If you were fortunate enough to take a picture with him, it is probably posted on his Picture Gallery on the walls of his home. He loved his family and friends; it showed on the walls of his home.

Mario loved to dress, wear his hats; and loved color coordinating his clothes. He was organized and had a set day dedicated to ironing his clothes. He was a clean and sharp dresser.

If you were family or a friend, you knew Mario’s heart. He had a loving, generous, and genuine heart. He was a freehearted person, no matter what he had, he always shared it with others. He gave from his heart. His siblings affectionately called him My ‘O”. His girlfriend Gladys and close friends called him “Oman” or “O.” Mario was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and soldier. To know Mario was to love him. He’s surely going to be missed.

Mario transitioned from his earthly body on April 29, 2024, at his home. His parents Willie and Minnie, twin sister Maria, brothers Major and Eddie Joe Washington, and sister Delores Cage preceded him in death.

Mario leaves to cherish his memories, brothers Otis Washington (Nekia) and Carlos Coleman; sisters Delores Fortune (Richard), Phoebe Fortune, Shirley Jones, and Norma Anakwe, aunts Bessie Girley and Louise King; girlfriend Gladys Stovall, a host of nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
