Listen to Obituary

Mark Steven Roberson, 60, passed away on March 18, 2017. He was born on April 24, 1956 in Kansas City, MO to George Strickland and Margaret Roberson. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974.

Mark worked for Sears and Roebuck for 6 years and was involved in Church Auxilaries and Community Church Services. God truly blessed our family and friends with one of the most humble and contemplative men. Mark provided peace, love, happiness and grounding. God blessed Mark with the ability to provide our family leadership, obedience, respect, discipline and spiritual guidance when needed.

Mark accepted Christ at an early age. Mark became a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church at age thirteen. Mark remained committed and devoted to his belief in the Lord Jesus Christ throughout his life. No matter rain, sleet or snow, Mark was dogged in his determination to help with auxiliaries and in any other capacity asked of him by the members of his church. Like everyone, Mark had his ups and downs, but he never stopped serving the Lord.

Mark was the best uncle in the world to his nieces and nephews, and a role model that provided guidance and direction to children, family and friends. Although Mark never had children of his own, he was a father figure who stepped up to play a large part in the raising of his niece and nephew, which was no easy task. We appreciate his brand of strict discipline, lessons of responsibility, and respect yourself and others that he instilled in us. For even when we got whippings, and we got many, Uncle Mark would explain to us the reasons why he had to do it. I still remember his line; “Hands on the wall, butt out.” We realize Uncle Mark did his best to keep us grounded in faith, get our education and become good citizens.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Roberson; his father, George Strickland; sister, Gloria Roberson-Johnson; brothers, Anthony Roberson, Glenn Roberson and Larry Ray Roberson; sister, Renee’ Roberson-Tolson; and special friend Bonnie Hubbard.

He leaves to cherish his memory a brother, Harvey Roberson; niece, Charlesetta Johnson “Chuckie”; nephew, Charles E. Johnson Jr. “Jon-Jon”; special life-time friends Preston Williams and Javan Wright, and a host of cousins and other family members.
