Dr. Martha Ann Henry-Barbee was born January 27, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri (Roundtop) to Daniel Howard Henry Sr, the 1st, and Dorothy Mae Johnson-Henry. Ms. Barbee proceeded in death by both parents and maternal grandparents Cedric C. Johnson, Sr. and Mercades Adams-Johnson, and paternal grandparents Malichi and Mary Henry, and three sisters Judy Henry-Bell, Sue Yvonne Henry, and Constance Henry. One Brother Daniel Henry II and first husband, Samuel Newman Jr.
She was raised at an early age in Roundtop neighborhood and attended ST. Matthews A.M.E Zion Church and she later formed her own ministry, The Christian Faith Ministries. She maintained a true Christian,throughout her lifetime.
Ms. Barbee married to Samuel Newman Jr. November 30,1968 and to this union a daughter, Kimberlea Charnice Newman was born. She later married Leonard Steven Barbee, Sr. On May 23, 1981,and to this union a son was born, Christopher Scott Barbee.
Ms. Barbee in the Central High School Class of 1966, on the Student Council and an Honor-roll. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a double major in Social Science and Business Administration and a Masters of Science Degree in Social Science from North Central Missouri College.She received a doctorate in Sociology. She graduated, Suma Cume Laude in all her degree programs. She completed the Charlie Parker Academy of Music and the Grandview Academy of Music. She received her PhD in Social Science from the University of Baltimore. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Columbia, Missouri Chapter) and the NAACP, she belonged to the Gregg Community CenterSeniors On The Go.
She enjoyed the Turner Classic westerns, especially Cisco Kid, Hop-a-Long Cassidy and the
Long Ranger. She loved to talk about the "Good Old Days" (The 50's 60's and 70's).
After finishing college, Ms. Barbee was employed as an international customer Service Agent for Sprint, Management Coordinator for Marion Merrill Dow, a Social Worker for the department for theMissouri State Department of Social Services, Adult Basic Education
Teacher for the Kansas City, Mo School District, and District Coordinator and instructor for AARP DriverSafety Program. She was also a gifted musician (Bass Guitarist and percussionist), playing for variouschurch choirs.
Shel eaves to cherish her memory, one daughter: Kimberlea C. Newman; son: Christopher S.
Barbee; daughter in-law: Jennifer R. Barbee; one granddaughter: JaChrista A. Barbee; step-grandchildren: JaLonte and Christin; Sister: Virginia Henry-Goolsby; brother: Vance E. Henry of Kansas City, Mo. Shealso leaves to cherish a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
