Mary Elizabeth Gregory Moreland, age 74, passed away on December 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 4, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Edward and Juanita Gregory, she was the second of their children. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Juanita and Edward Gregory, her brothers William Tate and Edward Gregory Jr., and her grandson Charles Tyronne Moreland II.
Mary married Charles Thomas Moreland in 1974, and to this union, their children Charlie and Ja'Nice were born. She was a proud graduate of Lincoln Prep in 1968, where she received her high school education. Mary pursued a career in nursing, dedicating many years to caring for others at hospitals in the Kansas City area. She retired from St. Luke's Hospital in 2012, after a fulfilling career. Following her retirement, Mary divided her time between Fort Worth, Texas, and Kansas City, with a special love for the warm Texas winters.
In 2014, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought valiantly through treatment, achieving remission. However, in November 2024, the cancer returned, this time affecting her lungs. Despite her illness, Mary remained strong and cherished the time spent with family. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, her sense of humor, and her signature phrase, "and stuff," which she incorporated into every conversation, and Caregiver to all.
Mary leaves behind her son, Charles Tyronne Moreland (Rosie), and daughter, Ja'Nice Ward (Samyel). She is also survived by her grandchildren Lance Reynolds Jr., Jade Moreland-Fuentes (Isaac), Sa'Mel Ward, Samyel Ward Jr. (Chelsea), Sambria Ward, Destiny Ward, and Samarion Ward, er great-grandchildren, Jasmine Thomas, Melody Thomas, Samuel Davenport, Samiyah Ward, Sa'Mone Ward, and Sami Ward will also carry her memory forward.
Mary is also survived by her sister, Kathy Richardson (Glen), her brother, John Gregory (Rosenda), and special cousins Carolyn and Marilyn, who were like sisters to her. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom will remember her for her kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, strength, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of her family.
