Maurine J. Salazar

Maurine Janae Salazar, 33, passed away on November 19, 2024, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born on October 5, 1991, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Alfredo Luis Salazar Sr. and Sandra Renee Salazar.

Affectionately known as “Miko,” Maurine grew up in Kansas City. She graduated from Hickman High School, where she was an active member of the cheerleading team. After high school, she worked at Olive Garden for several years and later attended Longview Community College, where she studied art and graphic design.

Miko was a vibrant, fun-loving person who cherished time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed playing board games, listening to music, and watching TV series—particularly Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, a show Miko and her mother often discussed and compared notes on. One of Miko’s signature traits was her ever-changing, colorful hair, which she would dye in vibrant hues such as pink, purple, blue, and green, reflecting her lively and playful spirit.

Maurine was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Victor Salazar (Sal), and Maurine Perkins (Sandra).

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, Alfredo and Sandra Salazar, her brother Alfredo Salazar Jr., and her beloved dog, Zeus, whom she adored. Miko is also survived by her paternal grandfather, Joe Perkins of Oklahoma, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends in Kansas City, Oklahoma and Atlanta Georgia. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
