Maxine Leona Dumas also known as Queen or Little Grandma by family was born on December 23, 1930 to parents Leona Gertrude Jenkins and Robert Lee Booker. To her family Queen was a Mother, Daughter, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. She was born and raised here in Kansas City, Missouri and was educated by the Kansas City, Missouri School district. Maxine accepted Christ into her life at a young age at Greg Tabernacle where she also taught Sunday School. Along with attending Greg Taber-nacle Queen later attended Right Way Missionary Baptist Church and Vic-torious Life Church. Maxine’s love for children inspired her to become a teacher. She taught at; Woodland Elm, Operation Breakthrough (St. Vincent’s) Daycare, and Lavina Peterson Montessori. One Thing that our Queen was a big believer of is that all children deserved a proper education. If you knew Queen then you know she had a fond affection for Elephants. Being a Kansas City Native Maxine was a fan of the Chiefs and enjoyed watching their games with her family, she even spent her final night sur-rounded by family watching the Chiefs game and was equally upset after their close loss. Maxine was very protective of all her children much like the Elephants she adored. Our Queen lived by the motto “Tell it like it is”, which is also the title of her favorite song. She loved to sing and dance and was also known for her infectious laugh and smile. Maxine was a per-son you could always look to for a joke to lighten the mood and spread her smile everywhere. It was often her family and friends would hear her vocalize her faith with phrases such as “Trust in the Lord” and “Thank you Jesus”. To Maxine strangers did not exist for she proclaimed that she was a mother to all. Like the Queen she was Maxine was known for her sassy and classy attitude. In all, she was a Phenomenal Woman. She was preceded into death by her parents; mother; Leona Gertrude Jen-kins, father; Robert Lee Booker, son; Donald, brothers; Robert, Eugene, Edward, Kenny, Herbert, Maurice, and Richard. She leaves to cherish her in memory her children; Marian, Gwendolyn, Kim, Steven a host of grandchildren, a great amount of great grandchil-dren, several great great grandchildren and many other close relatives and friends.
