Maxine R. Phillips, 75, gained her wings on October 11, 2020 at home in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on November 3,1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of James R. Hunt and Willa M. Hunt (Green), as the youngest of seven girls. Her husband: James L. Phillips, son: James Kelton Phillips, parents, and siblings: Willa Bell, Jamesetta Jordan, Elizabeth Banks, Helen Hunt, and Bernice Hunt, all proceed her in death.

Maxine was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri school district graduating from Central High School. She worked as a CNA for many years working in a private duty setting, in addition to, working for Nelson Nursing home and for General Hospital. She was married to James Leroy Phillips in 1968 in Kansas City, Missouri and were married until he gained his wings 10 years into their marriage. Maxine was an election judge for the Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners from the 1980s to 2016, as well as, serving on the Legal Aid of Western Missouri Board of Trustees from 1991 to 2014.

Maxine’s greatest passion in life was to helping people get on their feet. She did so by volunteering at a homeless shelter, helped to assist people in getting housing assistance, and at the Don Bosco Center to help people retain household essentials. She enjoyed cooking, playing spades, shopping, and spending time with her family.

Maxine is survived by her children: Carla Hunt, Dana Hunt, Cynthia Phillips (Lionel), Janet Phillips-Anderson (Larry), sibling: Bobbie Jean King, 13 grandchildren: Darren Hunt, Jason Hunt, Ashley Grigsby (Julian), Dominique Wheeler, Jamiel “Jay” Robinson, Carl “Stubby” Littlejohn, Jessica Wheeler, Roderick Wheeler, Kenneth “Kenny” Wooten, T’Mel Anderson, Lauren Anderson, Xavier Anderson, Lawrence Anderson, 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
