May Katherine Coleman, affectionately know as Susie, was born on Sunday, May 23, 1948, in Kansas City, MO., to Robert Freeman Coleman Sr. and Louella (Rabun) Coleman. She departed this life on Friday, July 12, 2024, after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer.
May was beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose caring nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
May graduated from Central High School in 1966.
She married James Eddie Robertson on April 21, 1969, and to this union four children were born: two sets of twins, James and John, and Tilicia and Troy. May had a successful career with Folgers Coffee after 20 years of service.
May was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. C.L. Williams and later united with Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Re. Dr. Joseph Clark where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. May was a dedicated member of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the secretary of the Missionary Board and the Willing Workers. May’s faith was unwavering, even in her battle with cancer. She continued to fight until the end, relying on her strong belief in God to see her through. May loved shopping, getting her hair and nails done, and most of all spending time with her loved ones, including her beloved dog, Tokyo. Her love for her family and friends was a defining aspect of her character.
May was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Louella Coleman; sisters: Mary Helen Bly, Barbara Ann McCrary, Shirley Jean Smocks, and Mary Jo Edwards-Grigg; her son Robert Robertson; and her grandson, James Patrick Robertson Jr.
She is survived by her three children: James Patrick Robertson (Shannon), Tilicia Robertson, and Troy Robertson; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; siblings: Marie Dupree Johnson, Robert Coleman Jr., Samuel Coleman Sr. (Barbara), Michael Coleman Sr. (Quinetta), Donald Coleman Sr., and Lola Coleman; goddaughters: Mia Edwards and Kennesha Beals-Day; her close friend Joe Louis Odom Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
