Melvin Coleman Guiden, age 79, was born on November 10, 1945, to Coleman and Francis Geneva (Green) Guiden in Greenbrier, Arkansas. The family relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan for a brief period before returning to Arkansas.
Melvin graduated from Pine Street High School in 1963 then relocated to Kansas City, Kansas. He was employed at Safeway Warehouse before transitioning to Kansas City Missouri Board of Education where he was employed until retirement.
Melvin accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of the Swope Parkway Church of Christ until his health began to fail. He was married to Izola Redmond and to this union one son was born: making a family unit of husband, wife and three children. He was a family man, with a big heart; once married prior to Ms. Izola and yet again, after Ms. Izola, to a young lady by the name of Rose, who preceded in death.
Melvin was full of life, fun to be around, and always the life of the party. He never met a stranger.
Melvin departed this life on August 27, 2025, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory: his pride and joy, his only son, Marvin Guiden, Raytown, Missouri., his bonus children: Brenda Jones (Gerald), Kansas City, Kansas, and Christopher Price, Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers: Audrey Davis, Kansas City, Missouri and Abel Davis (Theresa), Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters: Hygia Patrick, Tyler, Texas, and Georgia Jones (Willie), Malvern, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
