Listen to Obituary

Mildred Jefferson, 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 3rd at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, MO. She was born September 25, 1946 in Lexington, MS. to Cornelius Moore and Annie Pearl Moore. At a young age, Mildred moved to Kansas City, KS., to live with her father. She matriculated through the USD 500 school system and graduated from Sumner High School. She was a proud member of the Spartan class of 1964. After high school, Mildred attended Kansas City Kansas Community College and received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and Research Medical Center School of Medical Records and received her Accredited Records Technician certification. Mildred used her skills and knowledge in Medical Records at Truman Medical Center, Research Psychiatric Center, and Swope Parkway Health Center for 40 years. She retired in 2018 from Swope Parkway Health Systems after 18 years of service.

When Mildred moved to Kansas City, Ks., she was a faithful member of Eighth Street Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks. She gave her life to the Lord at a young age, under the leadership of the late Dr. I.H Henderson. She served in the mission department, sang in the choir, and loved her Sunday School Class #8. In 2005, Mildred joined Bannister Road Baptist Church, where Pastor Dwight Scott was her pastor. Mildred loved serving and being a part of the loving fellowship at Bannister Road. She taught the youth at VBS and would beam when talking about her time spent with the Classic Seniors. She truly loved her Bannister Road Baptist Church family.

Mildred married the late Elwood T. Jefferson on September 25, 1976 at Eighth Street Baptist Church. They spent 26 joyous years together, until his death in 2002. From their union they had two children, Jason and Kamille.

Mildred was a quiet, meek woman, but she enjoyed talking about politics and would sometime place a wager (the prize: a candy bar). Due to her keen understanding and knowledge base of politics, she usually won!

Mildred is preceded in death by both parents and her husband.

She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Jason and Kamille, grandson, Jason Jefferson Jr., god daughter, KaTrina Robertson, dear friends; Nadine Roberts, Renn’a Wren, Doris Brewer Guein, Sue Hardin, Delores Ramzey(caretaker and friend), Cheryl Richardson, Bonnie Frazier-Dryden, Mary Garner, Evelyn Wayne, Ruby Smith, Carolyn Cobb, Shirley Brown, Connie Smith, and Sharon McReynolds, cousin Chuck Dean (NaTasha), sister-in-law, Joyce Jefferson, sisters, Sharon Kay Hodge, Nancy (William) Montier, nieces, Shuron Hodge and Kayla Hayes. Tonya Jefferson. Former co-workers and church members. Very best sister/friend of 59 years, Wandra (Walter) Minor. And a host of other relatives and friends who loved Mildred.
