I have fought a good fight; I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord Judge, will reward to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
Samuel Anderson Jr. entered into the arms of Jesus on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his side. He was the son of Samuel and Gertrude (Burns) Anderson, born on April 29, 1943, in Ellendale, Tennessee. The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas when he was two years old.
He attended Douglass Elementary, Northeast Jr. High School, and Sumner High School in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District.
Samuel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. H. W. Bowen at Calvary Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kansas. He later joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas under the leadership of Reverend Otis Lee Cobbins. He later was ordained by Rev. Cobbins as a minister in September 1989. He currently attended Sheffield Family Life Center in Kansas City, Missouri, before he became too ill to attend in June of this year.
Samuel married Venetta Earlene Roach; to this union, three children were born, Melanie, Sandra and Samuel Anderson III.
In 2011 Sam and Venetta welcomed four loving children, Jayden, Frankie, Dreyvus and Jy’Via into their hearts and home as their own.
Samuel was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, who loved spending time with all of them and treasured each one of them. He was very generous and spoiled them all.
Samuel had a very concerned spirit for others, and this led him to be involved in prison ministry for years at the Wyandotte County Jail and the Lansing Correctional Facility. He wanted to make a difference in each life he touched. It was very important to him that they knew about the love of Jesus Christ and the blessings of knowing God and being saved.
Samuel loved sports, especially basketball and football. He also loved WWE Wrestling making sure he was tuned in every Monday night. He loved bowling with friends on their bowling league and was so excited when he got his first 300 ring. He shocked his grandchildren when he took them skating and they learned that even in his seventies he could out skate every one of them.
Samuel was employed by S & G Metals for 20 years before going on to work for General Motors where he retired after 25 years in June 2008.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Gertrude Anderson; his son, Samuel Anderson III; sisters: Pearl, Samella, Laura, Anna Mae, and Beulah; brother, Isaac Lee Anderson and son-in-law, Pastor Randolph Cobbins.
Left to cherish Samuel's memory: his loving wife Venetta; daughters: Melanie Anderson Cobbins, Sandra Wesson (Tyrone Wesson Sr.), Frankie Anderson, and Jy’Via Anderson; sons, Drevyus Anderson and Jayden Anderson; one sister, Lula Yates; three brothers, Melvin Anderson, Robert Anderson and Kenneth Anderson (Marsha); brothers in-law: John Hamilton (LaTrice), Gary Fowler Sr. (Carol); sister-in-law Christine Fowler; eight grandchildren: Chance Carter (Brittany), Tyrone Wesson, Jr. (Aminah), Tyandra Wesson, Tykeyze Wesson, Darion Wesson, Ciera Anderson, Samiah Anderson and Samuel Anderson IV; twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, Daileon Jr.; godsons, Tyrone Bledsoe (Miesha) and Jermaine Howard; cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
