Moniecea Downs, affectionately known as *Chellie* or *Mo*, entered eternal rest on June 6, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Willa Mae Ronny; her stepfather, Eddie Gober; her maternal grandparents, Lonzie and Mollie Ronny; paternal grandparents, John and Ruby Foreman; and a host of other cherished relatives.
Chellie was born on July 28, 1971, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Willa Mae Ronny and Wilford Foreman. At the tender age of five, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her mother. She was lovingly adopted and raised by her Aunt Dolly, who became “Momma” in every way that mattered.
Her spiritual journey began early in life at Gospel Lighthouse in Hayward, California. Chellie was saved and baptized as a child and continued nurturing her faith through camps, revivals, and church events throughout her life. A proud graduate of James Logan High School, Class of 1989, Chellie remained a lifelong learner. Her deep passion for ministry led her to earn an Associate of Biblical Studies from Faith Bible College in 2022.
Chellie’s life was beautifully marked by love when she reunited with her high school sweetheart, Charles Downs III. What began as a youthful connection blossomed into a lifelong bond, and their love story came full circle when they were joyfully united in marriage on November 21, 2007. From that day forward, Chellie lovingly referred to Charles as her “Poppa Bear,” a term that reflected the deep affection and unwavering devotion she held for him. Their union was a testament to enduring love, faith, and partnership—one that weathered life’s seasons with grace and joy.She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother to her daughters—Kaliesha, Chrissy, and DiNastee—and a proud grandmother to Jaedon, Kaleb, and Arya.
Professionally, Chellie was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She found her passion in warehousing in the early '90s and advanced through certifications and training, eventually becoming a forklift operator and later a Human Resources Specialist at Chewy. Her coworkers respected and adored her for her competence and unwavering work ethic.
Chellie was a fervent and faithful member of HOPE Church, where she served in numerous capacities: Usher Board Chairwoman, Children Task Force, Anniversary Committee, and more. A creative spirit, she joyfully used her gifts to support the ministry—designing flyers, organizing events, and preparing sermon notes to uplift the body of Christ. In July 2024, she received her calling and was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel by Bishop Benard Crawford Jr. of House of Prayer Evangelistic Church. Minister Chellie was always ready to step in where there was a need, doing so with love and enthusiasm.
Her life was a living testimony of warmth, strength, humility, and “Great Faith.” Even through life’s many trials, Chellie remained unwavering in her commitment to her faith, her family, and her calling. She finished her race well.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Charles Downs III; her beloved mother, Dolly Ronny; her father, Wilford Foreman; her daughters, Kaliesha (LaRon) Thompson, Chrissy Torrence, and DiNastee Downs; her sister, Relivia Foreman; her sister-cousin, Michíko Ronne; as well as a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, church family, coworkers, and dear friends.
Chellie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
