Bishop Frankie Jane Alexander

Bishop Frankie Jane Alexander, known affectionately as “Choicey” to most and “Big Momma” by her grandchildren, was born to Mr. Rayfield Prosper and Mrs. Avery Henrietta (Love) Brown on November 26, 1937, in Red Fork Township outside Watson, Arkansas. She was named Frankie Jane Prosper. She was the eldest of four children. She had three brothers: Roosevelt Carter, Willie Carter Sr., and Lee Henry Carter of Chicago. Her grandmother, Mrs. Sara Evans-Love, raised her. All who preceded in death, along with one son, John Jones; five grandchildren; Jeffery L. Jones, Anthony D. Jones, Robert L. Jones, Willie E. Hill, and Margaret R. Hill, and one great-grandchild; Arrionce M. Jones-Wooten.

Frankie attended Watson Elementary School in Watson, Arkansas, and Project High School in McGehee, Arkansas, where she earned her high school diploma. She later completed her associate’s degree at Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Missouri.

On November 26, 1954, Frankie married Mr. Joe Louis Jones Sr. in Dumas, Arkansas. Their union was blessed with eight children. In 1959, Joe and Frankie moved from Gould, Arkansas, to Kansas City, Missouri, with their three young children. Five more children were later born in Kansas City.

After their divorce in 1969, Frankie became a single parent, faithfully raising her seven remaining children. She often worked two jobs to provide for her family. Her beloved mother, fondly known as “Momma Rett,” played an important role by cooking, cleaning, and helping care for the children while Frankie worked. While raising her children, Frankie pursued higher education and worked diligently to support her family. She was employed by the Kansas City, Missouri, School District, where she later retired after many years of service.

Frankie’s life changed profoundly after she accepted the Lord, was reclaimed, and filled with the Holy Ghost. In 1961, she began attending Madden Temple Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Later, in 1966, she joined the Most High God Church under the leadership of the late Bishop John Fowler and Mother Emma Jean Fowler, where she remained a devoted member. She later served under the leadership of the late Bishop Willie Culclager Jr. and First Lady Vivian Culclager. Bishop John Fowler ordained Frankie as a minister, and she went on to serve as assistant pastor to Bishop Willie Culclager Jr. In 2012, she was installed as pastor, and in 2013, she founded and opened the House of Prayer Church of True Holiness at 5613 Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. She faithfully served as Bishop and Pastor until her illness.

Frankie’s faith deeply influenced her family and community. She brought all seven of her children up in church and was instrumental in several of her family and friends being saved. Through her steadfast witness, her mother, Momma Rett, was reclaimed and began attending church alongside her. Bishop Alexander’s faithfulness, strong conviction, and strong devotion to God led many family members and others to salvation.

In the year 1975, Frankie married Howard Roy Alexander, which was later dissolved in 1979.

She is survived by her children: Joe L. Jones Jr., Jessie L. (Tammy) Jones, LeeDell (Richard) Lowe, Maria D. (Walter) Hubley, Anthony L. Jones, LaVerne J. Jones-Divers, and Willie E. Jones.

Frankie has a total of 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends.

Bishop Frankie Jane Alexander will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her strength as a mother, and her lifelong dedication to God’s work.
