Listen to Obituary

Our beautiful Nicole Renee’ James came into this earth on Thursday, April 22, 1976, born to Dawna and Andre’ James. She is affectionally called “Nikki” by family and close friends. There are no amount of words that can describe Nicole. She was filled with light, love, kindness, inspiration, intelligence, beauty, and humor. Nicole was truly one-of-a kind. As her family, we are grateful that each of you experienced our darling Nicole. When Nicole was called to accept her wings, she was surrounded by family and friends. Not only did she touch the lives of those close to her, she touched strangers lives by being an organ donor. Nicole donated her organs on Thursday, October 5, 2023. She was honored in such a beautiful way and even in death, Nicole continues to live in and through the recipients who received her lungs and kidneys.

Nicole began her education at Pinkerton Elementary School where she was a school crossing guard and protected her little sister Adrienne. Nicole continued her education at School of the Arts where she was in a multitude of plays and where she took tap, jazz, ballet, and modern dance. Nicole graduated from Lincoln Preparatory High School in 1994.Nicole continued her education by attending Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2001. Nicole always had a passion for helping people and because of her love of helping, she had goals of becoming a counselor. Nicole achieved this goal by receiving a Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Education from Texas Southern University in 2003.

Nicole was employed at Swope Health Care Services for twelve years where she worked as a youth therapist and on the Crisis Intervention Team. Nicole enjoyed helping others and would often counsel close family and friends.

Nicole was baptized at the age of nine at Community Baptist in Church in Kansas City, KS and rededicated her life to Christ on April 9, 2023 at Alive Church in Kansas City, MO.

Nicole was a woman of many talents- she enjoyed decorating, being creative and spending time with family and friends. Everyone knew Nicole was the life of the party and being around her, you were bound to laugh and dance. Most of all, Nicole loved her children Jayden and Kennedy James. She took her role as a mother serious and there was nothing she would not do for her children.  Nicole also had a strong bound with her parents and was known to be a “daddy’s girl.”

Nicole is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Willie and Dorothy Miles, Sr. Maternal grandparents Johnnie and Arlena Carr and special cousin Wynester “Brownie” James, Jr and best friend LaMont Pinkney.
