Norman Lee Williams affectionately known as “Bubba” was born on December 31, 1944, in Booneville, MO to Charles Williams and Helen Kingsbury Williams. He grew up in New Franklin, MO, and graduated from New Franklin High School and continued his education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City MO. During this time, he was a standout basketball player and that was the passion that pushed him to major in physical education while at Lincoln.

He moved to Kansas City, MO in 1968, to begin a life that touched many hearts and left behind memories his loved ones will cherish forever. He held several jobs, but the bulk of his career was with the City of Kansas City, MO and the Housing Authority of Kansas City with positions related to community outreach and housing.

Some of his favorite pastimes included watching westerns, drawing, wood carving, listening to country music, R&B, and sports. One always knew a good conversation was going to be had when talking to him about football. Even though the Denver Broncos were his favorite team, he would always tell you, “I just like when a player knows his plays and executes them.”

One of his most prized possessions was FAMILY. He loved his mother, siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was very protective of them, and everyone felt and knew that. His grandchildren were protective of him as well. His first Granddaughter would tell everyone at the age of 2 that he was “MY BUBBA” and that is what he got personalized on his license plate.

After a brief illness, Norman passed away on October 11, 2025.

His mother, father, and his sister, Judith Williams Coleman, all preceded him in death.

Norman leaves behind his children: Arla Finney, Derek Williams Sr., Damon Williams (their mother Marolyn Porter); grandchildren: Ashley, Mikayla (Johnny), Jordan, Kyerra, Camryn, Derek Jr. and Ereck; great-grandchildren: Carson and Ava (Nov 2025); sister, Patricia Williams-Rowles; his former wife, Doris with whom he shared over 60 years of friendship and memories, as well as a hosts of nieces, nephews and friends.
