Opal Lillian Barr Mabion transitioned on September 12, 2022 at KU Medical Hospice Care Unit in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on December 18, 1936, in Dangerfield, Texas to Ernest and Opal Barr. She grew up in Oklahoma and as a teenager her family moved to Kansas City. Opal attended Lincoln High school and then completed a License Practical Nurse program at Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1972 Opal received an Associates Nursing Degree at KCK Community College and practiced as a Registered Nurse.
Opal and her husband Raymond established Bethlehem Kingdom Center (formerly known as Bethlehem Christian Assembly) in 1984. They served the community and provided a spiritual haven for those in need. In 2016 this devout couple had a street named after them “Apostle Raymond & Opal Mabion, Sr Way”.
Opal was a successful businesswoman. She and husband Raymond established Bethlehem Home Health Agency in 1998 and received their first patient in 1999. Opal retired from the agency in 2013.
Opal was known for her fierce determination and her love and devotion to God and family. Opal married Raymond Mabion on March 12, 1966. This marriage was bound by faith and love for 56 years. She was preceded in death by parents Ernest Barr, Opal Barr, son Philip, siblings Aberdeen Bray, Ernestine West, and David Barr. She is survived by husband Raymond, children Karen Wilson, Audrey Saunders (Edward), Raymond Mabion II (Ericka), siblings Montrula Donaldson, Sharon Butler, grandchildren Amber, Tiffany, Kristen (Fredrick II), Kierra, Kayla, Kourtney, Joshua, Trey, Blake, Jayden, Braylen and Trinity, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
