Listen to Obituary

Otha “SHAWN” Watts was born April 16th, 1967 to Otha and Betty Watts in Kansas City, MO.

Shawn attended North Kansas City School District where he went on to graduate from Winnetonka High School. At Winnetonka, Shawn was better known as one of the members of “The Floor Masters”, where he would gather the attention from all with his breakdancing moves. Before he was running for the Lord, he was breaking records in high school with his track team. Shawn also attended Graceland University as well as Metropolitan Community College where he gained certification in HVAC.

In 1993, Shawn met Ruby, who became the love of his life. Shawn and Ruby became one on December 31, 1999 and celebrated 24 years married. Together, they raised 3 sons and 1 daughter but were Godparents to many.

Shawn accepted Christ at an early age and attended Welcome Baptist Church. In 1995, Shawn became a member of Temple of Truth Baptist Church. With his faithfulness and dedication to the Lord, in 2008, Shawn became a Deacon in the church. In 2016, he went on to become the youth minister at Temple of Truth. Shawn would not only fellowship with members of Temple of Truth, but with anyone who came across his path asking them, “Do you know who God is?”

Shawn knew no strangers as everyone was his brother or sister in Christ. He brought joy and laughter to any room he walked into. His spirit remained high and he would always remind you that it’ll be ok if you trust in the Lord.

On Oct 15th, at his home, Otha “Shawn” Watts gained his wings with loved ones by his side, including his wife, brother, and daughter.

Shawn was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Watts, grandparents Henry Walker Sr. and Louvenia Walker, Godsons Da’Shaun Bell and DaJuan Taylor, and cousin Felicia Lowe.

Shawn leaves to cherish his legacy, wife Ruby Watts, father Otha Watts, son; Terry Broom (Nichole), Otha Shivers-Watts, and O’Tavionne Watts, daughter Tamara Johnson (Gary), Goddaughters Chariyah Taylor and Kween Hill, Godson Christian Lindsay, brother Gary Watts (Rhonda) and Brandon Watts, 9 grandkids, Terrynce, Tyrre, NaKiah, Cali, Kaiden, Otha, Oriana, Sharon, Tavion, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
