Overa Raglon, 87, of Kansas City, MO, died on March 22, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
Overa Raglon was born to Sybil and Morris Thomas on December 12, 1934 in Creston, Louisiana. Her family relocated to Kansas City, MO in 1949. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. She married Odie Raglon, Jr. on November 22, 1958 in Kansas City, MO, and to this union two daughters were born – Gwynette and Kim. They were married for 44 years. She worked passionately as a cook for the Kansas City, MO School District for over 25 years.
Overa loved the Lord. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and Lord and was baptized at 10 years of age at St. Matthew Baptist church in Creston, Louisiana. She joined Community Mission Baptist Church (Community Praise Worship and World Outreach Center) in the early 1970s under the leadership of the Late Reverend Charles Bell, Sr. She was a faithful member who served as president of the usher board for years. She was also in the outreach ministry and eventually became a Mother of the church.
Overa was an excellent cook and loved to sew for her family and friends. She was also an avid gardener who always had a yard and home filled with beautiful flowers and plants.
Overa was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and younger sister, Janie Mae Brown.
Overa is survived by her daughters, Gwynette Golden, and Kim Drew; her sister, Oretha Hunt, and her brother, Alex Thomas; Granddaughters, Latrice Henderson (Longa), and Breyana Drew Jones (Jason); Great-grandson, Azarre Henderson; Bonus son, Bruce Drew; Bonus grandson, Johnny Grigsby, Jr.; Uncle, J.L. Thomas (Essie); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
