Listen to Obituary

Pastor Randolph Earl Cobbins, 57, of North Kansas City, Mo., was born August 27, 1964, at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Ks., to his mother Roszenia Cobbins-Lee and raised by his father Charles L. Lee, Sr. He departed this life on December 7, 2021 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo.

He accepted Christ as a child and was baptized under the leadership of Dr. C.A. Pugh at Strangers Rest Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks.

As a youth at Strangers Rest Baptist Church, he was director of the youth choir. He also was a soloist for the youth choir. He loved summer Vacation Bible School (VBS) so much that he attended VBS at various churches and was proud that he received perfect attendance awards.

He attended Dunbar Elementary, Northwest Middle School and graduated from Washington High School, class of 1983  in Kansas City, Ks., Public School District. He also attended Donnelly College in Kansas City, Ks.

He always loved music and early in life, he was a part of three different bands. He went on to become a radio personality for KCNW, KCXL and KGGN radio stations.

Pastor Cobbins was employed by Ford Motor Company from 2002 as a Team Coordinator until his passing.

He accepted his calling into the ministry and preached his first sermon under the leadership of Pastor Clifford Jackson at St. Paul Monument of Faith in Kansas City, Mo.

On June 7, 1997, Pastor Cobbins united in holy matrimony with the true love of his life, Melanie Michelle Anderson and had the most beautiful blessed marriage for 24-1/2 years.

Throughout the years, Pastor Cobbins served in various ministerial and outreach ministries across the greater metropolitan area.

For about two years, he served alongside his uncle the late Pastor Cle Otis Cobbins, Sr., at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City Ks. After the passing of his uncle, he served as St. John’s interim pastor and blessed the souls of its members.

On September 14, 2008, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he became the founder and Pastor of Big Vision Church now known as Transparent Church. He was ordained under the leadership of Apostle Larry B. Aiken and Pastor Olivia C.Q. Aiken.

Pastor Cobbins was a debonair dresser, always well-groomed and dressed to the nines. He loved basketball, loved to play video games with his nephews and enjoyed running track. At age 50, he could still outrun some of the fastest youth that challenged him.

He liked working out and stayed fit, until his accident on his job in October 2019 that left him with some health challenges.

Most of all, Pastor Cobbins loved preaching and praying for people wherever he went. He was eccentric in his preaching style and had a flair for expounding on the Word of God. He often reminded people, “Don’t rationalize or compromise with the Word of God, because you may be the only living Bible people see.” He always quoted, “You’re blessed to be a blessing.”

On December 5, 2021, “as the sands of time were pouring through the hourglass”, as he laid in his hospital bed, his one request was to have his bed pushed into the ICU unit next to his wife where she laid. He took her hand, looked into her eyes and told her, “You’re so beautiful, you are beautiful even in your hospital bed. He looked at the doctor and nurses in the room and told them, “My wife is beautiful and such a beautiful person.” Looking back into her eyes, he said to her, “I love you, Melanie.” He then began to pray for her as he did every morning at 4 a.m. It would be his last prayer of blessings that he prayed over her as her Pastor and loving husband and what a wonderful husband and Pastor he was.

Pastor Cobbins was preceded in death by his father Charles Lee, Sr., maternal grandparents, John and Willie B. Cobbins, and paternal grandparents, Edgar and Evelyn Lee.

He is survived by his beautiful wife, Melanie Anderson-Cobbins, his loving mother, Roszenia Cobbins-Lee, his very special father-in-law and mother-in-law, Samuel Anderson, Jr. (Venetta), brother-in law, Samuel Anderson, III, sister-in- law Sandra Wesson (Tyrone), a host of Godchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, his Transparent Church Family and many friends.
