Melvin King was born February 10, 1942, to the union of George and Lucille King. He was raised and educated in Edwards, Mississippi. He was the 4th of 9 children. Early in his life he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
As a young man, Melvin moved to Kansas City for a job opportunity. Another opportunity took him to California for a short time, but eventually returned to Kansas City and started a career as an Iron Worker. He was gifted at repairing cars and opened his own business – King’s Auto Body Shop. While he worked on your car, he would give short sermons and talk about the goodness of the Lord.
Melvin joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Gerald Shealy and was a faithful, dedicated member until he accepted the call to Pastor. He and his wife Dr. Florene King founded Christian Fellowship Ministries in 2003. As Senior pastor of his church, he sponsored many communities outreach projects such as feeding the homeless, back to school supplies give-a-ways, community picnics, men fellowship meetings, and supporting a children’s orphanage in Sierra Leone, Africa and other ministries.
Melvin was an excellent husband, father, and grandfather. His kindness, love for the Lord, and the Word of God will long be remembered about him. He shared his wisdom with young men seeking to be better husbands and fathers. He was a man of integrity and true to his word. Our loss is heavens gain.
Melvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, both parents, brothers George King Jr., and DeArthur Covnington. Sisters: Acie Lee Johnson and Gino Sullivan (both of Cleveland, Ohio).
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Florene King, his children: LaMario Myrick (Kiria), Yvette King, Sonia King, Alicia Gunnels (Vincent), Deena King, Latonya Myrick (Princeton, Tx.)
