Patsy Ruth McGlothen was born on March 11, 1935, to John Christopher and Nellie Mae Scott in Centerpoint, Arkansas. She attended Dunbar Elementary School in Centerpoint, Arkansas and Childress High School in Nashville, Arkansas where she graduated in 1953.
Pat, as affectionately called, moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1953 and on June 9, 1954, married Millard C. McGlothen, Sr. To this union four children were born.
She was employed for over 20 years with The Osteopathic Hospital where she was a buyer, later becoming the first African American woman to manage the Purchasing Department. Pursuing other opportunities, she became employed with The Kansas City Public Library where she worked in the Periodicals Department, retiring in 1998.
She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. JT Tyus at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Centerpoint, Arkansas. In 1971, she became a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.M. Hudson, Sr. until his retirement. She continued her service under Pastor William F. Snorgrass until her health no longer afforded her the opportunity. She served at Progressive as a Deaconess, member of Celestial, Heavenly Praise and Mass Choirs, Sunday School Department, WMU and Deborah Circle.
Pat departed her earthly life to be with Jesus on December 19, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: James Scott and an infant twin. Five sisters: Cleo Childress, Chloe Harper, Lorraine Ellis, Geraldine Vaughn and Myrtle Bailey. Granddaughter Tamara Gines, and Great-grandchildren Kiera Paige and Carsen Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Carolyn McGlothen, Millard McGlothen, Jr. (Jacqueline), Kimberly King (Tim), and Trisha Johnson (Howard) all of Kansas City, MO; one sister Shirley Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
