Paulette V. Baldwin

October 7, 1950 — February 20, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Paulette was born in Kansas City, MO on October 7, 1950 to parents Otis and Mae Esther Townsend. She was preceded by both parents in death as well as her brother Thornton Shelton.

Paulette was a 1968 graduate of Central High School and obtained her cosmetology license. Paulette was mother to her only child, son, Shawn Baldwin with whom she shared a favorite past time of going to the local Swap and Shop.

Paulette worked as a hairstylist for many years and never lost her appreciation for a beautifully coiffed style.

She later worked as a life aid to those with physical and or mental challenges at Greater Kansas City Foundation. During her 20+ years of employment she took her responsibilities of care very seriously. Often, she could be found blending her personal affairs to involve her clients.

In her recreational time there were several things that evoked strong emotions from Paulette. She was always up for a good Sci-Fi movie. If you ever allowed yourself to get involved in a debate over the greatness of Godzilla vs. King Kong, you just might lose. But, the category of sports was something undeniably special to her. Baseball; she was Royals ready. College basketball; It was KU all day, and March Madness was just that. But the NFL was her sporting passion and if you knew Paulette, the Kansas City Chiefs were her Team of all teams.

Paulette made the most important decision of her life when she decided to dedicate herself to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 3, 1972. Paulette's choice meant that she would be a full-time minister for Jehovah. As such, it meant she regularly told others of her love for Jehovah and the wonderful promises offered for the future. The importance was demonstrated by Paulette’s regular monthly ministry. Although, in more recent time, not able to walk door to door, she was always on Zoom with the letter writing group. Her friends there lovingly called her Paul. Just Paul.

She was always excited to be the first to alert everyone on the first Monday of each month "THE BROADCAST IS OUT!". When preparing for the meetings or her personal study, Paulette loved to dive into the deeper aspects of spiritual things.

When able to attend meetings in person, she was always early. In fact, she was at the gate 10 minutes before the brothers got there to open it; a habit she continued even when her health limited her to Zoom only meeting attendance.

Paulette will be deeply missed.

Paulette is survived by her son Shawn Baldwin of Kansas City, MO.; Brother Thurman E. Shelton of Haddock, GA.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. Paulette also leaves her spiritual family that will hold loving memories of her until they can hold her again in the new world to come.
