Mrs. Phylliss E. Crockett was born on January 6, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri to Edwin and Aretha Warren. She was the oldest of 5 children and the only girl of this union.

In 1960, Phylliss married Henry Charles Crockett and to this union, 8 children were born.

Phylliss was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Aretha Warren Richards, and stepfather, Cleveland Richards; brothers, David Sunny Warren and Burton Robert Warren; her husband, Henry Charles Crockett; and their 5 children: Charles, Michael, Tracie, Wendell, and Leesa.

Phylliss attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri, where she proudly graduated in 1956. Inspired by the passion she inherited from her mother, she began working in the cafeteria at Central High School in the early 1970s, a role that reflected her caring nature and love for serving others.

Later in the 1970s, she answered a higher calling to care for others by beginning her nursing career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She worked in the Pediatrics Unit at Menorah Medical Center and Lakeside Medical. Her compassion touched the lives of countless children and families. She continued this meaningful work until her retirement in the late 1990s.

In 1989, Phylliss became a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Her faith in the Lord was unwavering and deeply personal. Even when unable to attend in person, she remained spiritually connected, faithfully participating in online services with Concord Fortress of Hope of Kansas City, Missouri.

Phylliss had a joyful love for shopping and found great delight in browsing and purchasing items through HSN, QVC, and Poshmark, as well as visiting her favorite store, T.J. Maxx at Ward Parkway. These moments brought her happiness and were often shared with laughter and stories.

Above all else, Phylliss’s greatest joy was her family. Her love knew no limits, and she proudly held many cherished titles—Mom, G-Phil, GG, Triple-G, Grandma, Matriarch of the Chestnut Mommy’s and Chief—each name a reflection of the deep bonds she shared with those she loved. Her presence brought comfort, wisdom, and warmth.

In June 2025, Phylliss’s health began to decline. On March 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, Phylliss E. Crockett peacefully departed this earthly life and was welcomed into the gates of Heaven. Though her physical presence is gone, her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.

She leaves to forever cherish her precious memories, words, and legacy her children, Toni Collins (Tyrone), Tina McGowan (Todd Love), and Rachel Crockett all of Kansas City, Missouri, 20 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and 3 sisters-in-law: Benita Bly, Betty Warren, and Judy Warren. Also, her special friends Mary K. Ross, Brenda Gordon, Roxy Burnside, and neighbor, Olivia Moffitt, and her best friend and sister-in-law, Mable Smith who preceded her in death.
