Raymond L. Johnson Jr. (June Bug), 69, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on December 12, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 16, 1954, to the union of Raymond L. Johnson Sr. and Mazarie A. Johnson in Kansas City, Missouri. He was proceeded in death by both his father and mother, brother Clayton (Pete) Johnson, and daughter Brigette Johnson.
Raymond graduated from Paseo High school, in 1972. After graduation he enlisted into the Navy, where he served 4 years. While in the Navy he obtained 2 medals, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. Shortly after being honorably discharged, he married Yvonne Johnson. Together they built a family and raised their children that he loved very dearly, Brigette, Raymond III, and Aaron. In addition to his personal life, he established a well accomplished career as a master painter at General Motors for over 35 years. He later retired and received a plaque for his excellent years of service. He lived a life filled with love, kindness, and fun, touching the hearts of all those he encountered.
He will be remembered for his snazzy dressing, jokes, great dance moves, and one-of-a-kind personality. June Bug had many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, going to the boats, playing dominoes and tonk, and listening to music, especially the O’Jays. June Bug had a profound impact on his family and will be deeply missed by all.
June Bug is survived by his children, Raymond L. Johnson III and Aaron R. Johnson, sisters, Marcia White, Erma King (George), Bettye Johnson, brother, Kenneth Johnson (Terri), seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory and continue to be inspired by his legacy.
