The sun rose brightly on August 27, 1945, heralding the beginning of a remarkable journey for Raymond Jesse Newton Sr., born in Tulsa, OK. Raymond entered the world as a beacon of hope, joy, and purpose, destined to touch countless lives with his unwavering stamina, heart, and resilience.
From an early age, Raymond radiated a rare brilliance that captivated everyone he met. With a heart full of compassion, he built his life around supporting his family and friends. Raymond was affectionately known by various names, including “Brother” (his mother, siblings), “Ray Jesse” or “Ray” (close family and friends), “Uncle Ray” (nephews and nieces), and “PaPa” (grandchildren, great-grandchildren). He always found ways to bring light to dark corners and uplift those in need. His laughter was infectious, his words strong but soothing, and his presence an anchor of peace and protection.
Raymond was a person of firm belief in following one's heart. He embodied an entrepreneurial spirit, faith, integrity, and unconditional love. He lived each day with purpose, a “go-getter’s heart, whether through his work as machinist, or serving the community needs by providing tax services, family arcade centers, and social lounges. Raymond created a legacy of love and family within the walls of his life, filling it with laughter, singing, lessons, and memories that will live on forever.
Raymond shared a strong belief in family which he would often state, “Family is everything and without family you have nothing.” Raymond was a teacher, a mentor, a friend, and above all, an amazing father.
Life was not without its challenges for Raymond, but through it all, he remained steadfast and unshakable, a testimony of perseverance and trust in God.
On January 24,2025, his purpose was fulfilled as Raymond departed this life, yet heaven rejoiced to welcome its newest angel. Though his physical presence will be missed deeply, the essence of whom Raymond was—his love, kindness, and wisdom will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Wayman and Virdell Newton, his son Pierre Stevens-Newton (Victoria), and his brother Norvell Newton (Cynthia).
Raymond is survived by his forever wife as he would always call her, personal confidant, and friend Ravana Lewis, children Raymond Newton Jr., Michael Newton (Michele), Antionette Starr (Walza II), Mario Newton (Regina), Matthew Newton, goddaughter Dorothy Elaine Yates, siblings Marcella Robinson (Harold), Terry Newton, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who celebrate his life and mourn his passing
