Listen to Obituary

Regina Marzee Harvey, 82, departed this life on October 26, 2024, at, 6:15pm, at Carmel Hills Wellness Center and Nursing Home in Independence, Missouri.  She was born on February 7, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri to Eugene Harvey, and Margaret D. Tinnon, who precedes her in death. Gee-Gee, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, grew up in the Leeds Community of Kansas City, Missouri.  She lived there until leaving East High School and moving in with other relatives.  Although she did not complete high school, six years later, Gee-Gee received her GED.

In her twenties, Gee-Gee accepted Jesus Christ as he Lord and Savior at Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Cornelius N. Rucker.  She created the church’s first children’s choir.  As the choir director, she inspired the children to sing joyfully, giving praises to God through the angelic sounds of their voices.

At age thirty, she enrolled in Penn Valley Community College and received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. She then attended Park Community College in Parkville, Missouri and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Psychology. After completing her certification to become a teacher in education, she began working for the Kansas City School District as a kindergarten through second grade teacher.  She enjoyed teaching young children because of their minds, energy, and passion to learn.  Gee-Gee taught hundreds of children during her teaching career.  She retired in 2009 after 25 years of service.

In the last eight years of her life, her health was challenged by dementia, and her mobility was limited due to arthritis.  She moved to several nursing homes as her illness progressed, with her final destination at Carmel Hills Nursing Home.

She leaves to cherish in her memory a son, Audwin Lydell Harvey, four sisters, Caselena Davis, Abigal Arthur-Ruffin, Gwendolyn Arthur-Pennington, and Carolyn Alberts, two loving, giving, and devoted goddaughters, Sonya Coleman-Tall and Barbara Kelly, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
