Reginald Phillip Brown, affectionately known as “Reggie,” was born on July 22, 1962, in Dallas, Texas, to John Phillip Brown and Nora Faye Brown.

Rooted in faith from an early age, he joined Magnolia CME Church and later accepted Christ at New Bethel CME Church under the pastoral leadership of his father.

Gifted musically, Reggie mastered the guitar, piano, organ, and keyboard, and later formed and directed the Terrell Citywide Mass Choir while attending St. Luke CME Church. He attended local schools in Terrell, Texas, and studied music theory at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas.

An entrepreneur at heart, Reggie founded Kerygma, a mobile gospel recording studio, where he recorded early projects for several gospel artists.

Reggie was united in marriage to Catherine Henderson, and they were blessed with two daughters, Porchia Brown and Alexia Brown. The family later relocated to the Kansas City area, where Reggie continued his life of faith, music, and service.

In Kansas City, Reggie became a trusted and beloved voice in gospel radio. He served as the longtime host of The Joy of Gospel on Hot 103 Jamz and was a familiar presence on Gospel 1590 AM/106.1 FM, where his voice carried hope, encouragement, and faith into countless homes and hearts. From 1996 to 2015, he served as Program Director for KGGN-890 AM, helping to shape and elevate gospel radio in the Kansas City community. In December 2015, Reggie joined the Carter Broadcast Group, where he continued to uplift the community, mentor others, and share gospel music with authenticity and grace. His work was never about recognition, but about service, faith, and lifting others.

In addition to his work in radio, Reggie served as Minister of Music for several churches, where his love for God and passion for music was evident in every note he played.

Reggie leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Catherine Brown; his beloved daughters, Porchia Brown of Kansas City, MO, and Alexia Brown of Kansas City, MO; his goddaughter, Cassandra Shaw of St. Louis, MO; and his parents, Reverend John Phillip Brown and Nora Faye Brown of Terrell, TX. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Wanda M. Calhoun of Tulsa, OK, Jan L. Woolridge of Forney, TX, Tasha N. Montgomery (Khars, Sr.) of Terrell, TX and Brent L. Brown (Carla) of Bourbonsos, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Naaman McGee and Nyleigh McGee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Reggie will be remembered for his passion for music, entrepreneurial spirit, and unwavering devotion to God and family, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire all who knew him.
