René DeCrumpe. It’s quite difficult to find the words in order to describe or summarize an incredible human such as herself. René’s energy and radiance, one might say, were life itself. Her smile (as seen in countless photos) will light up any room, anywhere, any time for any reason. Her love for you could be felt on day one. Even before you’d even thought of or uttered those words to her. From her son’s perspective, just the sound of her voice provided a sense of calm and a general feeling of “everything is okay” in a time of need. René was and still is many things to many people. She might have been your new friend from a trip, a sister you didn’t know you needed, someone to call on for advice, a great listener, a mother figure, a big sister, or just a beautiful human being you happened to have interacted with that one time at that one thing where she was probably wearing something with orange in it, an elephant on it or African inspired in general.
René didn’t have room in her heart for judgment of others. She’d have accepted anyone as they were, their true selves, in whatever form that might be. Her love, kindness, generosity, sincerity, patience and overall acceptance were and still are available for any and everyone to experience. René loved spending time with the people she cared about and meeting new people, ultimately creating more and more beautiful memories to be cherished by us all. She has touched many people throughout her life so we all have our special, humorous, beautiful, interesting, crazy, fun René memories forever tucked away in our hearts and minds. She may not be physically present but she lives on through us.
Once, she gave a complete stranger $20 out of her purse solely because they appeared to be in need with a baby in tow. She was not at all concerned whether or not the person was telling the truth, only that she wanted to help and had something to give them. She also took in a friend of her son during their high school years because he needed a place to live. As with anyone else that knows her, she made him feel special. She made sure that he knew he was loved, accepted and treated him like one of her own. Most people, if not all, that knew her would comment on how strong and fearless she was. Scared? Scared of what? No task was too tall for her. No obstacle was too big for her. No problem was too challenging for her. Né could not be stopped! With that, through any challenging or tough time, she just kept it moving. If you’ve gained nothing else from this beautiful human, I think you know now that… As we find ourselves in this tough time, we must be strong (like her) and keep it moving just as she would do.
