Reva Latrice Gilbert was born on August 10, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Pearce Gilbert Jr. and Charlesetta Bennet Gilbert. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri. She peacefully departed this life on January 31, 2024.
Reva accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and later rededicated her life to Christ and was baptized in 2007 at the Greater Pentecostal Temple under the leadership of Bishop Marvin Donaldson. Reva was educated through the Kansas City School District where she attended Westport High School. Her passion for service evolved into a career of serving others. Reva dedicated over twenty years to this calling, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many nursing facilities and agencies throughout the metro area. She loved working with patients with Alzheimer’s and spent much of her career serving that population. Even up to her passing, she worked private duty cases for families wanting a knowledgeable and trustworthy caregiver to look after their loved one.
After the passing of her mother, Reva embraced the role of matriarch serving as the hub that joined her beloved family together. Her home was a welcoming space, especially during holidays, where she hosted large family gatherings or a fresh hot meal if you needed a plate to eat. You could always catch her two stepping and singing; the life of the party. She also loved a nice challenge to a game of cards and putting together puzzles. Her grandchildren were her ultimate joy.
Reva was known for her feisty and outspoken personality, a straight shooter. She was a true fighter in every sense, handling life's challenges with courageous energy. Despite her petite stature, she possessed the heart of a lion and a spirit of determination that could be admired by those around her.
Reva is preceded in death by both her parents; sister, Debra Gilbert; brother, Billy Farrow and forever best friend, Sandra White.
Reva is survived by her loving children: LaDana Gilbert and Zandra Jones (Meekaa’eel); grandchildren: Deandre Sherrils, Dreshiyon Sherrils, Aunasia Dunn, Zion Simmons, and Zoe Jones; God-daughters: Tamika Moland and Kenisha White; siblings: Pearce Gilbert III (Kathy) of Savanah, Georgia, Clymatus “Puggie” Gilbert, Margaret “Margie” Martin, Allen “Recco” Gilbert, Vernon Farrow, and Yul Farrow; a beloved companion, Michael Welch, and a host of extended family and friends.
