Robert James Collins Jr., affectionately known as, "Heavy D", passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 75, in the care of Kansas City Hospice. Robert Jr. entered this world on April 14, 1950, in Jones Town, Mississippi, second born of ten children to his loving parents, Robert James Sr. and Florida (Bell) Collins.
Shortly after receiving his G.E.D., Robert, Jr. began working for the Kansas City Public Works Department Solid Waste Division. He worked in many departments, until he eventually became a Heavy Equipment Operator, which he loved. He then retired after 40 years of service.
Robert Jr. was happy, fun loving with a contagious smile. He enjoyed playing dominoes, cards and watching sports. His favorite football team was the Las Vegas Raiders. He was a diehard, devoted Raiders fan, win or lose, it didn't matter. That was his team.
Robert Jr. was a true "family man"... Through the union of his first wife, Stephanie, he was blest with three children. With his second wife, Jerri, three children, and third wife, Janet, three children; of the last three children, and his namesake, Robert III, was born. Robert Jr. was granted his wish of having a big, beautiful family, which he adored and cared deeply for each and every one of them. His children blessed him with several grandchildren; he loved them more than words could say.
Robert Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, four brothers and first wife. He was also preceded by his grandson, Kelvin Brown Jr. and granddaughter, Essence.
Left to cherish his memory: Robert Jr.'s children: Carolyn, Michael, Ronald, Debra, Cedric, Alesa, Linda, Angela and Robert James Collins III; his siblings: Leo Collins (Diana), Patricia Collins and Don Collins; several grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family and friends.
