Robert Lee Head passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Saint Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 76.
Robert was born on April 6, 1950, in Tallulah, Louisiana, to James Henry Head and Lula Mae Dawson. He spent the early years of his childhood in Tallulah until the age of twelve, when his mother moved the family to Kansas City, Missouri. There, Robert grew into a young man and graduated from Lincoln High School.
Following high school, Robert answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. His service during the Vietnam War earned him several distinguished honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, and one Overseas Bar. A skilled marksman, Robert was also recognized as a Sharpshooter. He carried the pride and quiet strength of a veteran throughout his life.
After his military service, Robert worked for GMAC for five years, until his health no longer allowed him to continue. Though he never married and had no children of his own, Robert was a devoted brother, uncle, and great-uncle, and he held a cherished place in the hearts of his family.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Head; his mother, Lula Mae Dawson; and his brother, Geno Willis.
He is survived by his loving sister, Bobbie J. Saulsberry; his devoted nephews, Trent L. Saulsberry and Johnny R. Saulsberry; his niece, Nanci Saulsberry; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry his memory forward.
