Robert Lee Taylor was born in Goshen Springs, Mississippi on December 18, 1933, to the parents of James Taylor Jr. and Florence Hobson. Robert relocated to St. Louis, MO where he met Harry (Sonny) Howard who would become to be his best friend.

He later moved to Kansas City, MO where he attended Western Baptist Seminary for both high school and college graduating with an Associates of Arts degree in 1954. Robert was an all-time athlete participating in multiple sports such as basketball and track where he received many accolades. He was featured in The Call paper in 1954 for his many achievements. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps the summer of 1956 where he worked as a radio operator.

In 1959 he married the love of his life, Loretta Jackson. From this union was born six children. Robert worked at the United States Post Office for over 50 years until his retirement in 2009. Up until his passing, Robert was a member of Second Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Western Baptist Seminary alumni where he served as their treasurer.

Robert gained his heavenly wings on December 31, 2023 and left many hearts to cherish in his memory.

He was preceded in death by both parents, James Taylor and Florence Hobson-Brown, his wife, Loretta Taylor, his son Leonard Taylor and son-in-law, James McGee.

He is survived by his five children, Elaine Taylor, Renee Taylor, both of Kansas City, MO, Robin McGee of Independence, MO, Anita Butler (Derrick) of Kansas City, MO and Courtney Taylor of Kansas City, MO, one sister, Vera Whitaker of Jackson, Mississippi. He also leaves behind, sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and his life-long friend, Frances Ward.
