Mrs. Roena Ross departed this life on July 31, 2020, at Truman Medical Center Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born August 31,1936 and was raised in Rolling Fork, Mississippi where her family tree started.
Mrs. Ross is preceded in death by both of her parents; mother Roena W. Speed, and father, Will Speed; one daughter, Johnetta, two grandchildren, Jerrell and Big Mike; one great-grandson, Montell Ross; four brothers, Henry, Arichie, Elijah and James; five sisters, Willie, Eliza, Ethel, Annette, Eloise; and a special sister, Gertude Miller.
She graduated from Sharkey High School, and then went to Napchez College, and later graduated with her Beautician License. Mrs. Ross worked at Trinity Lutheran Hospital for many of years and later retired as a supervisor over housekeeping.
Mrs. Ross accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age. She was a faithful member at Spruce St. Matthew Baptist Church for well over 40+ years. She was under the leadership of Pastor George Barns Jr. Mrs. Ross played numerous of roles at Spruce. She was in the Senior choir, Thousand Dollar Club and on the kitchen committee, where she spent most of her loyalty and passion. Mrs. Ross played the piano and had a singing group called (The Speed Sister’s). She was a dedicated member at Spruce St. Matthew until her health started to fail. Mother Ross was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who loved telling jokes.
Mother Ross leaves behind 5 children, Ira Ross (James), Derrick Ross (Shannon), Ettress Ross (Vera), Carla Harvey and Roena Jefferson; 15 grandchildren, Montell, Montrail, Jamishia, Ieshia, Thermond, Donnell, Donzell, Isiac, Shawnetta, Kuianna, Sherrell, Benette, DaMarko, Meriah and Chantell; 33 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
