Rosa Mae Gravitt 95 of Sedalia MO passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at
her home.
She was born December 26,1928 in Booneville, MO, a daughter to David Cochran and
Juanita Griffin Cochran. On June 16,1945 in Sedalia MO Rosa married Samuel I
Gravitt. She retired from Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia.
Rosa was instrumental in making sure that her children excelled in extra-curricular
activities and that they obtained higher education. She was very involved within the
community of Sedalia. She was a member of the NAACP and served on the zoning
committee for the construction of the Hubbard apartments. She received the
prestigious award for Unsung Hero. She was a dedicated walker as she walked five
miles a day for twenty-five years. She was a church mother at True Vine Pentecostal
church. She loved to crochet and made blankets for all of her children and
grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Juanita Gravitt of Sedalia MO; Estella Frazier (Harold)
of Sedalia; Lorraine Waters of Sedalia; Norma Poindexter of Marietta Georgia. Two
sons, Samuel Gravitt Jr (Vicki); Clarence Gravitt (Claudia) of Independence MO; Sister,
Norma Hollin of Springfield IL; Sister-in-law Margaret Cochran of Kansas City, MO;
several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great- great-children.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Samuel I Gravitt Sr, Son, Fletcher
Gravitt, Son, Wayne Gravitt, Father, David Cochran, Mother, Juanita Cochran, Brother,
Angel Cochran, Brother, David Cochran, Brother, Walter Cochran, Brother Clarence
Cochran, Sister, Ardell Ferguson.
