Rosetta Smith, age 74, was born on January 17, 1950, in Kansas City, MO at Queen of the World Hospital. She passed on October 13, 2024.
Rose was born to the union of William Finley and Naomi Johnson, which preceded her in death, and grandsons; Mckinley Johnson Jr. and Jamar Finley, brothers; William Finley (Big Eye) and Lemuel Finley.
Our beloved matriarch is survived by her husband Louis Smith, daughters; Odessa (Cookie) Buchanan (Steve), and Angel Smith, sons; Marcel Smith, McKinley Johnson (Zelda), Louis Jr. (Amina), Wasilah Smith (Chantel), siblings; Dyvan (Dee Dee) Osaynde (Greg), Josephine (Josie) Johnson, Kenneth Finley (Jimmy), and Samuel (Muckle) Johnson (Danae), grandchildren; Naomi Brooks, Caitlyn Brooks, Victoria Rose Smith, Breanna Johnson, Lakisha Johnson, Taneisha Ellis, Keith Osaynde, Kody Osaynde, and Eric Osaynde, great-grandchildren; Karson Aaron, SaMaiya Johnson, and Ayden Johnson.
Rosetta graduated from Manual High School in 1968 and attended Brown Mackie College. She also completed cosmetology school and received her Real Estate license.
Rosetta’s passions were traveling, shopping, and taking care of family. Rose's interests are far from none, she could do anything she put her mind to. Rosetta was a Beautician for 30 years and owned her own beauty salons around the metro. Rose was a Real Estate Agent for 10 years, and spent the remainder of her life dedicating her time and effort to taking care of her community by educating young minds and nurturing children for over 20 plus years at her daycare Kody’s Learn N Develop Center.
The boss that she was, Rose took on the role of a mother to her siblings at the age of 21. Rosetta Smith, known affectionately as "Rosie" was a mother/grandmother to many people beyond her own family. Rosetta was a long-time member of New Landmark Church, a congregation that has been in our family's lives for years and that she adored. Born with a heart of Rose Gold, Rosetta devoted herself to laughter, love, support, and happiness. Rest in peace, Rosetta. Your love will continue to shine brightly in the hearts you touched.
This is not goodbye, it is see you later.
We love you, Rosie.
