Samantha Mae Cubie

Samantha Mae Cubie, better known as “Mickey”, was born March 8, 1975 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Sharon Washington and James Barnes.

Mickey was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Southeast High School in 1993. She furthered her education, obtained her CNA license and worked for The Groves nursing facility. Shortly after, Mickey received her Pharmacy Technician license, where she was able to practice her skills working at Walgreens. Mickey also worked several customer service positions, Alliance Data being the one she retired from. Samantha was a proud member of a local motorcycle club.

Two years ago she met Willie Cubie, who she later married in March of 2019. Mickey was definitely the life of the party or any family event that was happening. Whether it was her dancing, singing, or her presence alone.

Samantha departed this life on December 26, 2021. Paternal grandparents, Eddie and Samantha Barnes, maternal grandparents, James and Beulah Washington and father, James A Barnes all preceded her in death. Two special cousins, Antonio Washington and Carlee Washington, Her loving brother in law Marvin Sanders Sr and nephew, Marcel Buchanan also preceded her in death.

Samantha leaves to cherish her memories: husband Willie Cubie; Mother, Sharon Washington. children, Shanaia Mills, Jasmin Prewitt, Joseph Hooks Jr (Mary) Samoni Ruff. Siblings, Fina Sanders Carl Washington, Michelle “Jeanna” Barnes. Grandchildren, Quin’Niya, Ja’Miyla, Ra’Miyah, Mi’racle, Ariyah, Ry’der, Prince, Chase, Zaniya, and Ziara. And a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties, cousins and friends.
