Sharon Lee Dennis

Our beloved was born in Bonner Springs, Kansas on August 24, 1939, to Clayborn and Margaret Taylor, who named her, Sharon Lee Taylor. She was born the third child to the family growing alongside her seven brothers and two sisters. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett J. Dennis Sr., six brothers Delbert, James, Cecil, Richard, Louis, and Jerry and two sisters Carol and Linda, Aunt Mary King, three children Michael Kent, Cheryl Annette, and Thomas Taylor, and three grandchildren TheJuan Hollinshed, Nicole Harris, and Brian Dennis.

Sharon went to Lincoln Grade School in Bonner Springs through 8th grade then worked at the Krispy Café and the Turner Café. Moving to Kansas City in 1959, working for Doctor’s Hospital, Truman Medical Center, and Research Hospital all while studying and attaining her G.E.D. In 1961, she married Everett Dennis Sr. becoming Mrs. Sharon Lee Dennis. Blue Valley Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Reverend Eddie Flackes Jr. has been her church home since 1984 where she was a dedicated member serving as the pastor’s secretary, bookkeeper, Mission President, youth Sunday School teacher, and usher with over 39 faithful years of ministry.

Mrs. Dennis cared for many children in her family. She would introduce them to the Word of God, teach them gospel songs, and encourage them to memorize Bible verses. It is because of her that her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren have the Word hidden in their hearts forever. Graduating from Metropolitan Community College with her associates degree as a mature adult after raising her nine children was not easy but phenomenally accomplished. Sharon suffered a stroke in 1995 that left her unable to speak and write but she completely rehabilitated her language skills with hard work. She was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzle books, and watching WWE wrestling in her spare time. Her strong presence, loving nature, tight hugs, and infectious laugh will be forever missed. Sharon Lee Dennis survived breast cancer and was more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)!

Left to cherish Sharon's memory: two sons, Everett Dennis Jr. and his wife, Gina (of the home) and Donald Dennis; four daughters: Kathi Lee of Aurora, CO, Margaret Taylor, Denise Dennis, and Carla Dennis of Kansas City, MO; her grandchildren: Michael, Howard, Tameka, Demeka, Monique, Rayshawna, Crystal, Derrick, Everett III, Isiha, Joseph, Dominick, Sammy Jr., Daron, and Devonte, with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and church family.
