Sharon Elaine Rambo was born Monday, November 26, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the union of Mattie Mae Washington and Emanuel Rambo Jr. She was the fifth of ten children born to this union and she loved her dual roles as the baby girl of the first five and the big sister to the last five. She was preceded in death by her bonus mother, Doris M. Rambo, her brother, Charles E. Rambo, and her sister, Terice L. Singleton.
Sharon accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Fredonia Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Carter was Pastor. She joined the Truelove Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorship of her father, Rev. Emanuel Rambo Jr. Sharon was active in many ministries at Truelove; she was a member of the Sunday School, Wednesday day and night prayer service, mission department, and her most coveted ministry, the choir. Sharon was a worshipper! You never had to worry about a rock crying out for her, as she worshipped from the crown of her head to the souls of her feet. She directed the choir for many years and would use every tool God gave her to do so. She would sing until the power of the Lord came down and could be heard leading many songs with the Truelove Choir, including Fully Committed, I Found Jesus, Waymaker, There is No One Like Jesus, and Here am I Oh Lord, just to name a few. In addition to singing in the choir, she also sang in a group with her sisters, The Rambo Sisters. She continued to be extremely active in the church until her health failed her.
Sharon was educated in the Kansas City School District where she graduated from Paseo High School as a member of the class of 1975. She attended Penn Valley Community College to obtain a degree in Social Welfare and went on to work as a caretaker and case manager for seniors in the community. She also worked for AT&T and Lire Automotive, however, her most cherished position was that of a homemaker.
In 1973, Sharon met and later married her lifelong partner, Anthony Ray Ersery. Together, they raised two children, Quiana and Damon. Sharon was very dedicated to her family, and she took immense pride in personally making sure they had all the things that they needed from day to day. She would be up early to cook breakfast for Anthony and Damon, and she always made sure her family had a nice dinner every evening before bed. She doted on her children and her husband and made sure they were sharp as a tack when they left the house. She spoke so frequently about all she had to do for her baby boy that once when someone asked her "how old is your son?" Sharon thought to herself, “oh Lord,” and she replied "12," when he was actually 16.
Sharon was regal and she captured your attention with everything she did. Whether being mischievous, funny, or simply walking into a room, you knew whatever move she made would be big. She had a big heart and would open her door to nieces, nephews, friends, and anyone who needed her. She would give you refuge, love, and a couple of pieces of chicken.
On Wednesday, May 12, 2007, Sharon had a stroke that robbed her of the activities of her limbs and altered her voice, but she did not let that stop her. For years to come she could still be seen in the grocery stores, malls, on trips, singing and dancing with her husband, and just being Sharon! She departed this life on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Menorah Medical Center.
