Sherry E. Cosby, 56, passed away on August 25, 2026, at Kansas City Hospice House. She was born on August 9th, 1970, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Howard Eugene Walls Sr. and Velma Walls. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Westport High School in 1988. She attended Metropolitan Community College Penn Valley, where she earned her associate’s in applied science in 1995. She married Michael Cosby on April 13th, 2002.

After graduating, Sherry worked at Rockhurst but spent the majority of her working life across various roles in Jackson County over the course of 23 years. In August 2003 she began working as a legal secretary in the prosecutor's office. In February 2005 she began as Executive Assistant to Mike Sanders (who at the time was Prosecuting Attorney) and in January 2006 worked as Executive Assistant to the prosecutor. In May 2015 she had a promotion transfer to Restitution Coordinator. In October 2019 she was appointed Jackson County Municipal Court Administrator. Finally, in January of 2022, she began working as a human resource coordinator in the Jackson County Corrections Detention.

Sherry was a kind and intelligent woman. She enjoyed helping people and being a listening ear for those who needed it. Her family will remember her wit and her warmth, the many hours of vibrant conversation. She was a hard worker praised by her colleagues. She was a devoted woman of faith and a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She loved dancing and playing music. Her children fondly remember her singing around the house. Sherry enjoyed travelling as well, particularly the family trips taken to see the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

She is preceded in death by her father, Howard Walls Sr.; sister, Sandra Dee; brother, Terry; and brother, Howard Walls Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; son, Benjamin; daughter, Neya; mother, Velma; best friend, Tierney; as well as a host of other family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
