Shirell M. Mullins

Shirell Marie Mullins, known as “Penny,” to all that loved her, was born March 23, 1964, to Diana and Robert Hudson. The oldest of five she grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri area where she also attended school. Penny worked many jobs, her last being for Durham Bus Company as a bus monitor.

Penny loved spending time with her family; it was definitely a party when she was around. But she loved being a grandmother most of all. If you knew her, you know those boys were her life. To know her was to love her. She was a ball of fire and never held back anything she had to say. Penny may have physically only had one child, but she was mother figure to many, who she loved like they were her own.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents Diana and Robert Hudson; sister Diane Mullins-Porter; maternal grandparents Jessie and Syrus Johnson; and paternal grandparents Beulah and Allen Hudson Sr.

Penny departed this life on December 20, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory her only daughter Maria Crosby; grandsons: Mark Crosby and Savion Crosby; siblings Michelle Knight (Paul), Chantell Mullins, Robert Mullins (Tilda), and Tony Butler; honorary kids Sherita Williams and Marcell Barrett; honorary grandson Darion Johnson; her special cousin Tyra Richardson, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Penny will truly be missed by all that knew her.
