Shirley Jean Bethel, 72, passed away on August 30, 2021 at Saint Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on November 18, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri to Sarah Lucille Edmond. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

She began working for Superior Toy Company in the 1970’s; Newsome Realty Company in the 1980’s; she also began working for Herman A. Johnson February of 1983 as a secretary/ cemetery assistance. She continued after his passing in 2004 to work for his daughter and her close friend Tara Johnson as an Administrative Assistant until she retired in 2016.

She was involved in Church Choir, Virtuous Women Ministry, and Hospitality &Prayer Team.

She married Hewitt Bethel on September 16, 1993, in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was preceded into death by mother: Sarah Lucille Cubit; stepfather: Daniel Lee Cubit; brother: Louis Edmond; Infant sister: Patricia Edmond; grandparents: Leonard and Fannie Williams; infant nephew: Darrell W. Wilcox; uncles: Willie Williams, Arthur Wiliiams, Hubert Abernathy; aunt: Shirley Williams; cousins: Danny Williams, Ronlee Williams, Steven Abernathy; nephew: Deshu’an Gauvin; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She is survived by husband: Hewitt Bethel; sisters: Helen Gaines, Janet Wilcox, Dana McDonald (Dexter, Sr.) Brenda Edmond; sister in law: Alecia Edmond; brothers: Otis Edmond (Leather), Raymond Lynn, David Edmond (Lisa); special aunt: Clara Mae Abernathy; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends .
