Shirley Jean Parker

Shirley Jean Parker was born on October 6, 1949, to Earl and Josephine Parker.  She attended Douglas Elementary School from kindergarten to 1st grade; attended 1st grade to sixth grade at Switzer Elementary School; 7th and 8th grade at West Jr. High School; and then Manual High School from 9th grade thru 12th grade, where she graduated in 1967.

She began working for St. Mary’s Hospital for 21 years, and then began working for Market Research Institution for 14 years, and then later began working for Weight Watchers International from 2005 to 2014. She attended Christian Tabernacle Church of God in Christ on 40th & Woodland Ave for 3 years, and then followed her parents to Faith Mission Church of God in Christ, where she sang in the choir and served as the choir secretary for 24 years.  After the passing of Eld Hubert Lambert she returned to Christian Tabernacle in 1993 under the late Bishop Emanuel Newton, Sr. and remained as a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Keith Newton until her unfortunate stroke, that caused her to be admitted into the Lakewood Care Center in 2016 until her transition.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents in 1989: Eld. & Mother Parker; oldest sister: Joann McGary in 2006; and her oldest brother: Wendell Parker.

She leaves behind her sister: Patricia Parker; brother: Tyrone Parker of Kansas City, Missouri; 5 nieces, 5 nephews, and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.  Although she had no children, she helped raise her great nephew: Torrence Parker (Tory): and great nieces: LaQuisha Morrow and Dominic Parker (Nikki).
