Stanley Keith Ransom was born in Kansas City, MO, on April 6, 1959, to Grover and Eugenia Ransom. Stan, as he was affectionately known, was the youngest of his parents’ eight sons.
He graduated from Kansas City’s Central High School and enrolled at the University of Tulsa. In early 1982, he began working at AT&T. During his 30-year tenure, which included rotations in Tulsa, OK, Los Angeles, CA, and Kansas City, MO, Stan brought his wonderful personality and exceptional customer service to work every day. He developed lifelong friendships with many of his co-workers. He was a dedicated member of the “Communication Workers of America Union” where he served as a Union Steward for many years. He was passionate about employee rights, and while serving in the union, he consistently lobbied in the capitals of Missouri, Kansas, and our nation for better working conditions and labor rights for workers. He also was a leader in the “Black Integrated Communications Professionals,” Kansas City, MO Chapter. Through this organization, he mentored countless Black employees at AT&T and served in many leadership roles, including Vice President. After 30 years of service and winning several awards for his service, loyalty, and production at the company, his selfless nature showed through when he declined multiple senior positions in other states after AT&T downsized its Kansas City office. Instead, he decided to retire and focus on being the caregiver for his mother and brother Glen. For many years Stan worked tirelessly caring for those he loved, including his daughter Kaleia.
Stan was a devoted and loving father of Kaleia, Kyeisa, and his cousin Damario who was like a son to him. He enjoyed every moment of life and often referred to himself as “Stan the Man” and “Stan from Kansas City.” Although Stan was known for many things, his amazing smile and wonderful sense of humor were among his top attributes. He was also handsome, smart, articulate, and bold. He was the life of every party, the rock for his friends, the pride and joy of his family, and a pillar to his daughters. You would catch him with a camera at every event because he loved capturing great memories. His stylish dress and snake-skinned boots were his persona. He loved to eat and was a great cook; and was equally as great on the dance floor and roller-skating rink.
Stan enjoyed spending time with family and celebrating the triumphs of those he loved. He was also a very proud “Papa”. He loved all of his grandchildren. Some of the highlights were cheering on and watching his grandsons play sports at their games and spending time baking with his granddaughter. A fervent Chiefs fan, you could catch him watching Sunday football while wearing Chiefs’ gear.
Stan took on his battle with cancer in early 2022 with sheer grace and determination; never surrendering. He held strong to his faith in God and continued to give Him glory. He was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Temple in Kansas City, KS. He departed this life Sunday, January 8, 2023, but his spirit is with all of us, always.
Stan was proceeded in death by his father, Grover Ransom Sr.; mother, Eugenia Ransom; brothers, Bruce Ransom, Glen Ransom, Carl Ransom, Jimmy Ransom; daughter, Kaleia Hayes; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his brothers, Donald Ransom, Gary Ransom, Michael Ransom, Grover Ransom Jr., Billy Ransom, Timmy Ransom; sister, Shirla Ransom; daughter, Kyeisa Ransom; son/cousin, Damario Solomon-Simmons; grandsons, Kylan Johnson, Greg Lyles, Kyron Tharp; and granddaughter, Landyn Rand.
He also leaves his longtime friends, Debra Pascal, Tyrone Bland, Keith Walters, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
