Listen to Obituary

Sue Lene Davis passed away at her home on May 19, 2025. She was born on June 23, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Reverend Esau and Minnie L. Jackson. She was the second born of three daughters and one son.

Sue was a “preacher’s kid”.  She was raised in a household where faith was both taught and lived. She found strength and joy in worship, and throughout her illness, she remained steadfast in her belief. She would always say, “I’m standing on the promises of God.” Her life was a testament to unshakable faith, grace, and resilience. She faithfully served her church home and was a devoted member of Deeper Life Christian Ministries in Grandview, Missouri.

Sue married John Richard Davis on May 5, 1968. He preceded her in death.

Sue graduated from Manual High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lincoln University, where she also became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She later earned a Master of Education in Reading and received certifications in Vocal and Instrumental Music, as well as Adult Basic Education. Sue began working towards a Ph.D. in Education, which is another testament to her lifelong passion for learning and teaching.

Sue devoted over 40 years to Kansas City Public Schools as a classroom and music teacher. Her classroom was more than a place of instruction. It was a sanctuary of encouragement, support, and love. She saw the potential in every child and made it her mission to nurture it. In 2013, Sue fulfilled a lifelong dream by founding her own private Christian school—Total Learning Christian Academy—an institution built on faith, academic excellence, and the belief that God should be at the center of a child’s education.

A master teacher and mentor, Sue earned many accolades for excellence in teaching, mentorship, and leadership. She was a mentor to countless educators, always ready to lend her experience, guidance, and heart.  Even after retirement, she continued to tutor and pour into the lives of young people.

Sue was a true creative.  She loved music and her voice both unique and powerful. Her creativity wasn’t just a gift—it was a calling. She poured her heart into every detail, whether at church or in the classroom. She could bring life to anything she touched and often used her artistic talents to help craft last-minute school projects for her grandchildren that earned top marks.

Sue loved her family. Everybody came to Aunt Sue’s house! Her home was filled with love, warmth, and delicious meals—especially her legendary baked chicken and macaroni and cheese.

Sue was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, and friend. Always offering words of wisdom wrapped in love and scripture.  Whether she was offering quiet encouragement, a comforting hug, or a heartfelt prayer, she had a way of making you feel seen and heard.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Esau and Minnie Lee Jackson; her brother, Esau Jackson Jr.; and her sisters, Pearlie Mitchell and Betty Goodine.

Sue leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Stephanie Davis; her son, Jarrin Davis (Sherri); and grandchildren: Alexis, Eryn, Jadin (Lebert), Sydnee, Stefan, and Corin, DeAnna and Adora Campbell. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former students, and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
