Susie Harris, 79 passed away on December 7th at her home in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born June 10th, 1941 in Cleveland, Arkansas to Ernest Byers and Wilma White-Byers.

She grew up in Kansas City Missouri. She graduated from Central High School in 1959. After high school, she studied nursing and worked at Queen of the World Hospital. She then began her career at the United States Postal Service where she retired after 32 years. She was involved in bowling and was also the PTA President at her children’s school. She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church, where she was a Missionary, Director of Sharing and Caring, which provided food for the community, a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Deaconess. On January 7, 1961 she married Robert Harris and they were happily married for 59 years.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, her son, Steve Harris, who was a former Blue Springs High Schools basketball standout and former NBA player, and her youngest brother, Anthony Byers.

She is survived by: her husband, Robert; daughter, Robin Harris; daughter-in-law, Harriet Harris; siblings, Sylvia (Billy) Moore, Joe (Margaret) Byers, George (Hazel) Byers, Faye (Rudolph) Penn, and Ernestine (Willie) Clark; granddaughter, Brittany Harris; grandson, Justin Harris; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
