Thomas Eugene Nixon (Buster) passed away on June 26th, 2024 at home waiting for his brother Wayne to pick him up for one of their twice weekly jaunts to the store. At 3:05 PM., Wayne called and said that he was on his way to pick him up, Buster said he would be waiting. When Wayne arrived at 3:45, Buster had passed. He died the way he lived, quietly, peacefully, and without fanfare.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers Johnny and Edward, and a special nephew, Brandon.
Buster was born June 17, 1952, in Kansas City, KS. the fourth child of the union of Edward Earl Nixon and Iola Kindred Nixon. He began his education at Vernon Elementary School in Kansas City, KS. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City, MO, and attended the Metropolitan Community College. He retired as a Baker from Manor Bread and was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Unit.
After retirement, he worked fulltime for his brother at AAA Linen Supply and did mechanical and maintenance work at the Restart Foundation. In the late 1970’s Buster married Melinda Nelson and gained a son, Victor Nelson.
Buster was an avid reader, collector of movies and antiques, and an unabashedly Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was also a smooth two- stepper and was “fire” on the basketball court, as witnessed by his brother Wayne and his special cousin Charlie. However, his first love was family, and he never missed a family gathering. One of his highlights in life was flying with his family to Tampa, Florida and taking a cruise ship to Cozumel, Mexico.
Thomas Eugene Buster Nixon is survived by his sisters Earline McKelvy; Marilyn Johnson (Benny) of KCMO; Jackie Rhodeman Sherrer (Bobby) of KCMO; Paula Love (Michael) of KCMO, and Evelyn Robinson (David) of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by two brothers - Paul Duane Rhodeman(Annette) of KCMO and Jack Dalton Nixon (Darlene) of Sublimity, Oregon, a favorite aunt Juanita McGill, nieces and nephews, each of which was his favorite, and many cousins and friends.
Whenever Buster ended a conversation with a family member, he always said, “I love you.” And so, Buster - from your family - We love you and will see you again.
